The Bangladesh Plastic Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BPGMEA) has demanded a reduction in the corporate tax rate for companies in the plastics sector from 32.5 percent to 10 percent as well as a source tax of 25 percent at the same rate as in the export sector.

Samim Ahmed, president of the organization, made the demand at a press conference on Monday (June 7) on the proposed budget for the 2021-22 fiscal year.

He said, ‘The plastics sector has worked tirelessly and played a very important role in combating the Kovid epidemic. Plastic is widely required for packaging of face masks, face shields, goggles, hand gloves, sanitizers, PPE, disinfectant medicine bottles, various medicines. Our industries are producing day and night and keeping the supply chain in various government hospitals. ‘

The BPGMEA President said, “Currently, there are more than 5,030 small, medium and large plastic industries across the country.” Internally, it currently has a revenue of around Tk 35,000 crore. Exports are about 1 billion dollars. About 1.2 million peoples have already been employed in the plastics sector.
