Onion imports have increased through the Hili land port in Dinajpur around the upcoming Ramadan. As a result, prices have come down. The wholesale price has come down by Rs 3-6 per kg but the retail price has come down by Rs 8-10 per kg. Meanwhile, relief has returned to the common man as the price of the essential spice product has come down. Traders and importers have said that if such a trend of onion imports continues, there is no possibility of increase in prices during Ramadan.
Hili market and warehouses of importers have been visited. A week ago, onion was sold at Rs 23-26 per kg in wholesale at Hili land port, but now it is being sold at Rs 20-23. Meanwhile, onions were sold at Rs 28-30 per kg a week ago at retail in Hili market but now they are being sold at Rs 20-22. Besides, domestic onions are being sold at Tk 28-30 per kg. In the last seven days, three and a half thousand tons of onions have been imported through Hili land port.
