Onion imports through Hili land port in Dinajpur have declined amid the ongoing epidemic. The demand for the product is low in the country’s market. Importers have reduced imports for fear of losses. As a result, the supply in the domestic market is declining. Due to this, the wholesale price of onion has come down by Rs 2-3 per kg in just one day. Meanwhile, the wholesalers who come to buy onions think that the rise and fall of onion prices is a ploy of traders.

It has been learned that the warehouses of various importers of Hili land port have been visited and Nasik and Indore varieties of onions are being imported through the port. However, imports are lower than before. Due to this Indore variety onions are being sold at higher prices. A day ago it was sold at Tk 25 per kg but now the price has gone up to Tk 27-28. On the other hand, Nasik variety onion went down to Tk. At present it is being sold at Tk 30-31.
