US-Bangladesh Business Council will launch soon

The US Ambassador to Dhaka, Earl R. Miller, paid a courtesy call on Rizwan Rahman, President, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI). The courtesy call was made at the office of Dhaka Chamber on Sunday.

The US market is very important for Bangladeshi entrepreneurs at the moment, DCCI President Rizwan Rahman said trade between the two countries has increased by 37.6% in the last 10 years and bilateral trade stood at about 7.96 billion dollars in 2020, with Bangladesh’s imports and exports. 2.13 billion and 5.83 billion dollars, respectively.

He said Bangladesh mainly exports garments and textiles to the US market, but in recent times it has been exporting footwear, leather, fish, furniture, medicine, plastics, toys, ceramics and agricultural products. Besides, Bangladesh imports yarn, rod, steel, boiler and oilseeds from the United States.

The US Ambassador expressed optimism that the courageous attitude of the entrepreneurs of this country will play an effective role in expanding trade and commodity markets in the coming days. He said a US-Bangladesh Business Council would be set up soon to expand US investment and trade in Bangladesh, through which US entrepreneurs would be exposed to the possibility of doing business in the country. The Ambassador noted that Bangladesh’s sectors such as agriculture, tourism and eco-tourism, maritime economy, light engineering and automobiles have great potential for investment.
