12 Japanese companies canceled their contracts with China

News of human rights abuses against the Muslim community in China’s Xinjiang province has begun to hit the country’s export-led economy. Twelve Japanese companies have canceled business deals with Chinese companies believed to be benefiting Uighur Muslims from forced labor in Xinjiang.

Earlier, Japanese companies said they would sever ties with their Chinese business partners if allegations of forced labor by the Uyghur community were true. News of Kyodo News.

Pressure is mounting on Japan to take action against Chinese companies for human rights abuses following US and British sanctions on imports from Xinjiang.

Human rights groups have accused the Chinese government of torturing about one million Uighurs and other Muslims in Xinjiang since 2017 in the name of counter-terrorism. They are forcing them to work.
