Prime Minister directed to collect toll on the highways
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed to collect toll on all highways of the country. Giving this instruction to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, he said, the days of free service are over.
Besides, after upgrading the proposed Dhaka-Sylhet highway to four lanes, the Prime Minister also directed to collect toll from there.
The Prime Minister gave the directive at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) at the NEC conference room in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Tuesday (February 16th). He said that not only revenue collection through toll collection, but also opening a separate bank account. From where only road maintenance will be spent, the Prime Minister said.
Planning Minister MA Mannan told reporters after the ECNEC meeting.
Quoting the Prime Minister, Planning Minister MA Mannan said the days of getting free services are over. We want to get service. But not willing to pay. It has become our culture. We need to get out of this culture. From now on you have to pay the price to get government services. You have to pay to get good service.
The minister said the Prime Minister had instructed the ECNEC meeting to build restrooms at certain distances on the road. So that passengers, drivers and driver’s assistants can rest there.
