The price of onion has gone up by Tk 10 per kg due to reduced supply at Hili land port in Dinajpur. On the other hand, due to lack of profit, onion import through Healy land port has been stopped for so long, but now the importers of the port are thinking of importing the product as the price has increased in the country’s market.

According to the Hili Land Port Office, India imposed a ban on onion exports on September 14 last year, citing the crisis in the domestic market and rising prices. The Indian government later lifted the ban due to increased onion production. About three and a half months later, on January 2, onion imports started through the port, but the quantity was quite low. Traders lost interest as the government recently imposed a 10 per cent duty on onion imports. As a result, no onion was imported through the port for two weeks.
