ECNEC approves Tk 4,236 crore for vaccine

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved an expenditure of Tk 4,236.78 crore for the purchase, storage and supply of the epidemic coronavirus vaccine. The money has been sanctioned under an ongoing project.

The project will cost Tk 3,030 crore in the current fiscal year 2020-21 (till June 2021). The total cost of the project is estimated at Tk 6,786.58 lakhs. Of this, government funding is Tk 172.45 crore and loans from the World Bank and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) are Tk 6,614.13 crore. It will be revised to implement the project from April 2020 to June 2023.

The money was approved when the project was presented for final approval at an ECNEC meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday (January 5th). The money was approved under an ongoing project to buy vaccines. The Prime Minister presided over the ECNEC meeting held at the NEC conference room in Agargaon via video conference from Ganobhaban. On the other hand, Planning Minister MA Mannan and other concerned ministers and secretaries were present at the NEC conference room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
