16 more die, 1617 new infected

16 more people have died from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll from the pandemic to 386 in the country. Besides, 1617 fresh cases have been recorded during the time. With this, the total number of positive cases climbed to 26,738.

DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through online on Wednesday.

A total of 10,207 samples have been tested in 43 coronavirus testing labs across the country over the last 24 hours. Of these, 1617 have been diagnosed with coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 26,738, she said.

About the 16 new fatalities, Prof Nasima said that seven were in Dhaka division, five in Chattogram, one in Sylhet and three in Rangpur division. One of them was aged between 81 and 90, two between 71 and 80, four between 61 and 70, five between 51 and 60, one between 41 and 50, one between 31 and 40, one between 21 and 30 and one other between 0 and 10.

Besides, 214 new people have recovered from the novel coronavirus over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 5207, the health official said.

The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
