Regent Airways postpones all flight operations

In the wake of the global spread of the novel coronavirus, Regent Airways has temporarily postponed all its international and domestic flight operations from Sunday.

The airlines has announced that it will resume its flight operations after the current worlwide travel ban is lifted with the improvement of the coronavirus situation, said a press release on Monday.

CEO of Regent Airways, Imran Asif said in the statement that the global outbreak of the coronavirus has triggered travel ban in various countries, for which various airlines have postponed all their activities indefinitely, causing a significant loss to the global aviation industry.

He said, “Regent Airways, as a trusted and reputable private airlines in Bangladesh, continued its efforts to operate its flight operations. But the only international route had to be postponed due to travel restrictions imposed by the Singapore government.

“Cox’s Bazar, one of the most popular tourist routes within the country, continued to operate. But to prevent the outbreak of Corona, operation has to be stopped as per the directive to discourage travel.”

According to the press statement, Regent Airways operated a limited range of international flights from Qatar, India, Oman, Malaysia, and Singapore from March 8 to March 20 despite the coronavirus situation.

The last international flight RX785 departed from Singapore at 1.30 pm local time on March 20. Also on March 21, at 8 pm, the last domestic flight RX742 landed on Dhaka from Cox’s Bazar.

Announcing the resumption of the operation after the normalcy of the situation, Regent’s CEO said, “In this crisis, in the next weeks or months, we will keep a close eye on the conditions of the aviation industry’s regional and global markets. We will, therefore, be eager to resume our activities in full swing. Regent Air will begin its flight management and commercial operations once passengers restore their confidence on travelling in airlines.”
