Quader orders repairing damaged roads ahead of Eid
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Thursday directed all concerned to repair the damaged roads across the country ahead of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Azha.
He gave this instruction at the preparatory meeting on the Eid journey of the home-bound people at Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) office in Dhaka’s Banani area.
He also said that the plying of heavy vehicles, including trucks and lorries, will be banned from 7 days before Eid.
Noting that the holy Eid-ul-Azha will be challenging this year, Quader, also the Awami League (AL) general secretary, underscored the need for increasing road monitoring by the law enforcers to make the people’s Eid journey smooth and trouble-free.
The minister advised all concerned to repair the potholes on the roads.
Mentioning that rain slows down the speed of vehicles, he further said whenever potholes will be found on roads, necessary steps must be taken.
He urged the law enforcers to check animal-carrying trucks and vehicles whether have fitness licenses or not.
The AL leader said district police would be needed along with highway police for this.
“The trend of setting up cattle markets beside highways has decreased,” he said, adding that special attention should be paid to the BRT project in Gazipur to avoid problems on the road.
