Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) and Registrar of Joint Stock Companies (RJSC) Signed MOU to Enhance Collaboration in Preventing Money Laundering and Combating Terrorist Financing
Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) and the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies (RJSC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Bangladesh Bank head office in Dhaka, marking a significant milestone in strengthening efforts to prevent money laundering and deter terrorist financing. Mr. Md. Rafiqul Islam, Director of BFIU, and Mr. Muhammad Shafiqul Islam, Deputy Registrar of RJSC, signed the MOU on behalf of their respective organizations.
The MOU establishes a framework for the exchange of information, cooperation, and coordination between the BFIU and RJSC, with the primary objective of combating illicit financial activities in Bangladesh. By leveraging their respective expertise and resources, the two organizations aim to enhance the effectiveness of their efforts in identifying and disrupting money laundering schemes, as well as detecting and deterring terrorist financing activities within the country.
Key provisions of the MOU include the sharing of information related to suspicious financial transactions, identification of high-risk individuals or entities, and the development of joint initiatives and training programs to improve the capabilities of both organizations. The collaboration seeks to streamline efforts in investigating and prosecuting financial crimes, ensuring a more robust and coordinated response against money laundering and terrorist financing.
The signing ceremony was attended by distinguished representatives from both the BFIU and RJSC.
Mr. AFM Shahinul Islam, Executive Director and Deputy Head of BFIU, Mr. Md Masud Rana, Additional Director, Mr. Md. Arif Khan, Joint Director, Mr. A.N.M. Kalim Uddin Hasan Tushar, Deputy Director and Mr. Md Ifthekhar Mahmood, Programmer of BFIU graced the occasion from the BFIU. From the RJSC, Mr. Sheikh Shoebul Alam NDC, Registrar, Mr. Ananta Kumar Paul, Examiner of Accounts, and Mr. Rokibul Islam Rony, Assistant Registrar were also present, highlighting the commitment of both organizations towards this partnership.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. AFM Shahinul Islam expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “This MOU signifies the commitment of BFIU and RJSC to work together in combating money laundering and terrorist financing. By sharing information and enhancing cooperation, we aim to strengthen our collective ability to identify and disrupt illicit financial activities, thus safeguarding the integrity of the financial system in Bangladesh.”
Mr. Sheikh Shoebul Alam, NDC highlighted the importance of collaboration between the two organizations, stating, “The signing of this MOU marks a significant step towards creating a more resilient and secure business environment in Bangladesh. By pooling our resources and expertise, RJSC and BFIU will be better equipped to detect and prevent financial crimes, thereby promoting trust, transparency, and accountability in the financial sector.”
