The death toll from the earthquake that jolted Turkey and Syria has crossed 23,000.

The death toll continues to rise amid widespread devastation.

The death toll in both countries is expected to rise further as the rescue operations are hampered by bad weather. Rescuers faced shortages of trucks, fuel and time.

As many as 19,388 people have been killed and over 77000 injured in Turkey after the earthquakes that rocked the country on Monday, said Turkey’s disaster management agency, AFAD.

The total number of deaths has now reached 3,377 in Syria.
