The street drama “Doppa Day” was staged in front of the National Press Club at 3.30 pm today [May 5] on the occasion of Dopa Day, a cultural festival of the oppressed Uighur people of China.

The street play was staged by Samad Bhuiyan and his team in protest of the cultural adversity, threats and persecution of Uyghur Muslims in China.

This internationally celebrated Uyghur cultural festival has been celebrated on 5 May every year since 2009.

The street play was organized by Open Dialogue Bangladesh (ODB), an organization that has been working in Bangladesh for a long time to protest the persecution of Uyghurs.

Uyghur researcher and social activist Tahir Imin started the festival. This day is celebrated around China, especially in the south and north of Xinjiang. The festival is considered a symbol of the Uyghur nation’s solidarity.

China has not spared any country from it’s expansionist mindset…not even Bangladesh. Recent incident at Badura village, where  workers at Chinese project were injured in a clash with Chinese  on the construction of an embankment at Mathbaria in Pirojpur is a small event to highlight the same.

Therefore, on the occasion of Doppa Day…we urge Muslim brothers and sisters of Bangladesh and entire world to stand up against the persecution of Uyghur Muslims . Also, we urge Bangladesh government to severe diplomatic ties with China and stop all projects with Chinese government/assistance
