71 companies got permission to import 4 lakh tons rice

In order to alleviate the rice crisis in the country, the Ministry of Food has given permission to 71 individuals and organizations to import 4 lakh 16 thousand metric tons of cooked and sun-dried rice in the first phase.

On August 18, a letter was sent from the Ministry of Food to the Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce allocating for imports in favor of these institutions. Of this, non-basmati cooked rice is 62,000 tonnes and atap rice is 56,000 tonnes. Rice can have a maximum of five percent broken grains.
