The National Board of Revenue (NBR) Dhaka South Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate has uncovered value added tax (VAT) or VAT evasion of ambee Pharmaceuticals Limited, a pharmaceutical company. However, the company did not pay the VAT evasion revenue despite repeated requests to be deposited in the government treasury. As a result, the transaction of the bank account of ambee Pharmaceuticals has been suspended.

Last Tuesday, the Dhaka South Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate sent a letter to the central bank requesting the owners of the company to make their bank accounts unmanageable or frozen. It said it was important to suspend bank account transactions in order to collect arrears. Note: One of the senior executives of the company is businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai.

In this regard, SM Humayun Kabir, Commissioner, Dhaka South Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, said that after the discovery of VAT evasion of Tk 29 million by MB Pharmaceuticals, they did not pay the money. In this context, according to the VAT law, the bank account of the company has been asked to be frozen. He said the stay would be revoked if they paid unpaid money.

ambee Pharmaceuticals has already approached the VAT authorities to deposit the unpaid revenue in the government treasury after the suspension of bank account transactions, he said.
