High court issued rule to stop smoking in dramas and movies

The High Court has issued a rule asking why the actors should not be instructed to control and stop smoking and use of tobacco products while playing various roles including the main characters of dramas and movies.

A virtual bench of the High Court comprising Justice JBM Hasan and Justice Rajik Al Jalil passed the order after hearing a writ petition.

Supreme Court lawyer Moniruzzaman Lincoln confirmed the matter on behalf of the petitioner.

The Secretary Health and Family Planning, the Law Secretary, the Home Secretary, the Information Secretary and the Chairman of the Bangladesh Film Censor Board have been asked to respond to the rule.
