5500 tons ginger imported in Vomra
Ginger imports at Bhomra land port in Satkhira have increased as compared to other times. In the first month of the current fiscal year 2021-22, the import of spices has increased at least five times as compared to the same period of the outgoing fiscal year. Traders and importers say the demand for ginger in the domestic market is on the rise. But the supply was less than that. Due to this, the price of ginger has gone up recently. Ginger imports have been increased to curb the market.
Akbar Ali, a senior revenue officer at Bhomra customs station, said 5,415 tonnes of ginger was imported through Bhomra land port last July. The value of these imported ginger is Tk 44.58 crore.
He added that 1,432.29 tonnes of ginger was imported through Bhomra land port in July of the 2020-21 financial year. The value of these ginger is 11 crore 80 lakh rupees. Compared to the first month of the last financial year, the import of the spice product has increased almost five times in the first month of the current financial year.
