At the Hili land port in Dinajpur, the price of rice is Tk 3-4 per kg in two weeks. The traders claimed that the price has gone up due to the manipulation of the auto rice mill owners. They called for importing rice from India to curb price rise.
In this regard, Subrata Kundu, a rice seller in Healy Bazar, said that the price of rice has gone up at an unusual rate. The rice that we sold for Rs 44-45 now has to be sold for Rs 48-49. Automill owners are deliberately raising the price of rice.
Rice seller Swapan Kumar said the start of the Irri season has not had much of an impact on rice prices. The price of rice is also higher due to the rising price of paddy. The LC through which rice was imported from India is closed. Prices are rising due to low supply of rice in the market. If rice imports from India start, the price of rice may go down a bit.
