After resolving the IP complexities, onion imports from India started on June 3 through Hili land port in Dinajpur. Then in seven days 3 thousand 484 tons of onion was imported in 128 trucks. Onion import through port is increasing every day. On the other hand, the wholesale price of onion at the land port has come down in one day.
According to the port officials, 95 tonnes of onions were imported in four trucks on June 3, 213 in nine trucks on June 5, 397 in 15 trucks on June 7, 575 in 22 trucks on June 8, 741 in 27 trucks on June 9 and 1,035 tonnes in 35 trucks on June 10. Onions have been imported. Last Saturday, 418 tons of onions were imported in 15 trucks.
Hili land port and warehouses of various Amanikars have been visited, Indore and Nasik varieties of onions are being imported through the port. Even a day ago, onion of these varieties was sold at Tk 30-32 per kg. At present the price is being reduced to Tk 27-30 per kg. As a result, the price has come down by Tk 2-3 per kg.
