Cumin import of spice products has increased through Bhomra land port in Satkhira. The product has been imported more than twice as much in the current financial year as in the previous financial year through this land port. According to the information provided by the port officials, in the last 10 months (from June last year to April this year) about Tk 23 crore cumin seeds were imported through this port. Importers and traders say cumin imports through Bhomra land port have increased due to rising demand.
In this regard, the owner of Messrs. Rafsan Enterprise, one of the importers of spices in Bhomra land port. Abu Hassan said the demand for imported cumin in the domestic market is much higher this time than at any other time. "My company is importing 150-160 tonnes of cumin per month this financial year, which is at least twice as much as last year," he said. We supply these imported cumin seeds to different parts of the country including Dhaka and Chittagong.
