In the new financial year (2021-22), from July 1, e-payment or online payment has been made mandatory if the import duty is more than Tk 200,000.
The announcement was made by the National Board of Revenue on Monday (May 24). NBR public relations officer Syed A. Mu'men confirmed the information.
He said that from next January (2022), any amount of duty-tax payment through e-payment has been made compulsory.
Although the National Board of Revenue introduced this system in 2017, the desired results were not achieved. It is learned that in the new system, unlike the pay-order or challan system in import-export, the money will be paid directly from the bank account of the C&F agent to the government treasury through Bangladesh Bank.
As a result, the importer or C&F agent will be able to pay the revenue quickly without any hassle. This will reduce the risk of fraud in the payment of duty at the import-export stage.
