If bank official dies in Corona, he will get Tk 50 lakhs

The second wave of corona is going on in Bangladesh. For the first time, the government is in a tough position to save from this epidemic. Strict lockdown has started across the country. However, industrial establishments have been kept open to keep the wheels of the country’s economy moving. Banking facilities are required to manage the activities of these institutions. In the light of this, the activities of the bank have been kept limited in accordance with the hygiene rules.

Bangladesh Bank has instructed the bank officials and employees to ensure health services. This time, Bangladesh Bank issued instructions to the concerned organization to stand by if any officer or employee dies due to corona. A directive signed by Nazrul Islam, general manager of the Banking Regulation and Policy Department (BRPD) of Bangladesh Bank, on Monday said that if any bank official dies of corona, his family has to pay a minimum of Tk 25 lakh to a maximum of Tk 50 lakh. Bangladesh Bank has directed to pay special compensation to the officers and employees considering the risk and recognition of their duty. This directive will remain in force from the time of the general holiday declared by the government on March 19, 2020 until further notice.

According to the instructions of Bangladesh Bank, first class officers / senior officers / probationary officers / management trainee officers / officers of higher rank from equivalent will get Rs 50 lakh.

In addition, trainee assistant officers / equivalent officers up to stage 1 will get Rs. 36 lakh 50 thousand. Staff and sub-staff will get Tk 25 lakh.

According to the letter, in case of untimely death of a bank officer-employee due to the outbreak of coronavirus, according to the prevailing rules of the bank, the money should be handed over to the wife / husband / child of that officer and parents if unmarried.

In case of coronary death, the officer or employee concerned may not reconcile any of his other liabilities with that amount of compensation. This compensation will be paid in addition to the financial assistance applicable in case of death during the described period.

The circular said that the directive was issued under the powers conferred under Section 45 of the Banking Companies Act, 1991.
