The capital is surrounded by 128 km railway network
To ease traffic congestion in and around the capital, the government plans to build a 128-kilometer-long rail network. Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said. Quader said an integrated plan would be implemented by 2030 by constructing 67 km flyover and 61 km subway with six metrorails.
The Minister for Road Transport and Bridges announced the plan at the signing ceremony of DMTCL’s contract with the company for feasibility study, detailed design and tender assistance for the southern part of Metrorail Route-5 on Monday (March 29).
At present, detailed design is being prepared for the construction of Metro Route-1 by 2026. The Minister said, “Various surveys and preliminary designs are also being prepared for the construction of Northern and Southern part of Metro Route-5 by 2028. . Initiatives are underway to build Metro Route-2 and Metro Route-4 on PPP basis on G2G basis by 2030. ‘
