More than 5,000 trucks carrying imported goods are stuck at Petrapole across the Benapole land port in Jessore waiting to enter Bangladesh. The traders complained that the commodity was created through a syndicate to collect money. As a result, Bangladeshi traders have to pay a daily fine of Tk 2,000 per truck for standing in the parking lot. As such, the syndicate is collecting fines of Tk 1 crore from Bangladeshi traders every day.
The traders complained that a syndicate of West Bengal's Bangaon municipality had created the Kalitala parking lot. Here trucks coming from different states to enter Bangladesh are forcibly stopped. Later, they are collecting a daily fine of Tk 2,000 per truck. The issue has been discussed at the official level of the two countries. Traders are also protesting. But nothing seems to be working.
