Demand for 30% increase in cash assistance for potato exports
Potato exporters believe that the potato industry will be ruined if a part of the country’s potato production is not exported.
They said this while participating in a workshop on ‘Potential Supply, Storage and Marketing Situation of Potatoes in the Current Season’ organized by Khamarbari Agriculture Marketing Department in the capital on Tuesday (March 16).
At the workshop, the traders demanded an increase in cash assistance for potato exports from 15 to 30 per cent, saying they had to pay around Tk 5,000 for a truck from Rangpur to Chittagong. Ships are not available on time, there is no solution despite repeated complaints about good quality problems.
They said that despite the possibility of exporting potatoes to different countries, it is not possible because we do not have world-class labs.
