Due to the high price of paddy this year, farmers are more interested in boro cultivation. Boro planting across the country is not over yet this season. In different areas, farmers are picking rice seedlings from the seedbed and planting them in the land. Some people are busy preparing the land by picking other crops. Boro planting will continue for another week or two in the area.
In this regard, according to the information of the head office of the Department of Agricultural Extension, the target for boro cultivation in the current season has been set at 48 lakh 520 hectares of land. Till the last day of February, 47 lakh 61 thousand hectares of land has been planted.
It is learned that the government is working with the idea that not even an inch of land should remain uncultivated by giving utmost importance to agriculture in tackling the possible food crisis in the country. For this reason, farmers are getting free seed and fertilizer assistance as an incentive. Besides, subsidy has been given at the rate of Tk 10 per kg for boro paddy seeds to increase production in the current boro season as well.
