Milk Vita members offers assistance of Tk 132 crore
The country’s dairy sector, like other sectors, was severely affected by the epidemic. At that time, Bangladesh Dairy Cooperative Union Limited (Milk Vita) could not collect and market the entire milk produced by the cooperative farmers for six to seven months due to the epidemic. 1 lakh 32 thousand 606 members of Milk Vita were directly and indirectly affected.
In this regard, the concerned said, the Ministry of Cooperatives has taken several initiatives to help the farmers affected by the epidemic. In view of this, there is a plan to give a subsidy of Tk 5 per liter of milk in the next one year. Besides, 6,168 poor and marginalized members of 3,084 cooperative societies will also be given a grant of Tk 3 lakh for the purchase of two cows each. For this, the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives has sent a proposal to the Ministry of Finance to allocate Tk 132.52 crore in favor of Milk Vita. The finance ministry is discussing the proposal among itself. However, no final decision has been taken yet. A final decision will be taken soon, Finance Ministry sources said.
