World Bank lending dollars 20 crore to Bangladesh

The World Bank is lending dollars 20 crore million to Bangladesh to ensure safe water for 6 lakh people in the marginal areas of the country and healthy sanitation for 36 lakh (3.6 million) people. Bangladesh will have to repay this loan in 30 years with five years grace.

An agreement in this regard was signed between Bangladesh and the World Bank on Tuesday (February 9). The agreement was signed by Fatima Yasmin, Secretary, Department of Economic Relations (ERD), Bangladesh, and Mercy Tumbar, Country Director, Bangladesh and Bhutan, on behalf of the World Bank.

The project will be funded under Rural Water, Sanitation, Hygiene (WASH) for Human Capital Development. The project will be implemented in 8 upazilas of Sylhet, Chittagong, Rangpur and Mymensingh divisions of the country.
