The state-controlled Tea Board has backed rising tea prices as rising production costs rise and imports from South Asian neighbors fall. Last year, India produced 125.56 crore kg of tea, which is 9.7 percent less than last year. Tea gardens in the northeastern state of Assam have been affected by floods, affecting the country’s tea production.
