Commission working to gain investors confidence

The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), the regulator of the capital market, is working to gain the confidence of investors, said the commissioner. Shamsuddin Ahmed. BSEC wants to make an average transaction of Tk 3,000 crore by gaining confidence.

He was speaking at a workshop organized by Capital Market Journalists Forum-CMJF, an organization of news workers working on the capital market, on Saturday. The workshop on the role of media in shaping a stable capital market was organized at BRAC CDMA in Rajendrapur, Gazipur.

Shamsuddin Ahmed said the BSEC took a number of policy changes and new decisions after a change of leadership in the middle of last year. The market has been on the rise since last December. Passive investors are becoming active, institutional investors are also increasing transactions.

From the last week of December to the middle of January, there were five days of transactions worth Tk 2,000 crore. One day the transaction was more than two and a half thousand crore rupees, which is the highest since 2010.

The BSEC commissioner said, “The capital market has lagged far behind in the past. The capital market is being made investment friendly by amending the rules and regulations. The commission is working to gain the confidence of investors by continuing this trend of development.

BSEC Executive Director Saifur Rahman said, ‘The initiative taken to improve skills through workshops is commendable. The training analyzed various data of the capital market, which will help investors to disclose accurate information.
