Tk 4347 crore is coming for development of Bangabandhu Industrial City

Work is underway to set up the country’s largest economic zone ‘Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Industrial City’ on about 30,000 acres of land in Mirsarai and Sitakunda upazilas of Chittagong and Sonagazi upazila of Feni. A project costing Tk 4,347.21 crore is going to get approval of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for the development of various infrastructures in the surrounding zones including Zone-2A (939 acres) and Zone-2 (474 acres) of this industrial city. Of this, the government will give 379 crore 74 lakh 20 thousand and the World Bank will give 3 thousand 967 crore as loan.

The project was to be approved at the ECNEC meeting on Tuesday (January 19th). However, due to special reasons, the ECNEC meeting was postponed and the project may get approval at the next meeting.

The project titled ‘Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Industrial Development’ will be implemented by the Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) on the initiative of the Prime Minister’s Office.
