Cost of Matarbari power project is increasing Tk 12,000 crore

Cox’s Bazar’s ‘Matarbari 2×600 MW Ultrasuper Critical Coal-fired Power’ project, which has received the highest priority, has started the process of increasing the cost and time. The cost of the new project may increase from tk 12 to 14 thousand crore. If the cost increases, it will be the second most expensive project in the country. So far, the highest expenditure in the country is on the Rooppur nuclear power plant project.

According to Coal Power Generation Company Bangladesh Limited (CPGCBL), the implementing agency of the project, the cost of the new Matarbari power project could increase by around Tk 14,000 crore. The cost of the project will increase from 36 thousand crore to about 50 thousand crore. Necessary steps are being taken to increase this cost.
