Revenue deficit of Tk 33,000 crore in six months

In the first six months (July-December) of the current fiscal year 2020-21, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) lags behind the revenue target by 23 per cent, which is about Rs 33,000 crore. However, the revenue collection has increased by 2.10 percent as compared to the same period of the last financial year. The revenue target for the period under review was set at Tk 1,41,225.11 crore. On the other hand, 1 lakh 8 thousand 471 crore 71 lakh taka has been collected.

NBR officials said the revenue shortfall was due to the ongoing Corona epidemic in the country. At the beginning of the year, they say, there is a slowdown in revenue collection. This time the corona situation has been added to it. There is stagnation in trade and commerce in the country. On the other hand, VAT-tax exemption has been given to keep the supply of food and other consumer goods and safety products normal. However, as the Corona situation is improving now, they are expecting an increase in revenue collection in the coming days.
