Cabinet supported Bangladesh-Bhutan trade agreement

Bangladesh has signed a bilateral trade agreement with Bhutan, the cabinet ratified the agreement. The approval was given at a virtual cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday (January 11th). From the Ganobhaban, the Prime Minister and Ministers from the Cabinet Division in the Secretariat attended the meeting via video conference.

Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam said this at a press briefing at the Secretariat after the meeting.

The Cabinet Secretary said, “The Preferential Trade Agreement signed between Bangladesh and Bhutan has been approved by the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and the Royal Government of Bhutan and its respective Rule for Determination of Goods for Bangladesh Bhutan.” On December 6, a bilateral agreement was signed between Bangladesh and Bhutan at the level of Commerce Minister. Article 22 of the agreement states that the agreement will be implemented through diplomatic relations between the two countries to facilitate duty-free access to imports and exports of certain products. It needs the approval of the cabinet to implement it, so it was brought to the cabinet. The cabinet has approved it.
