21 more die, 1602 new infected

21 more people have died from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll from the pandemic to 349 in the country. Besides, 1602 fresh cases have been recorded during the time, the highest ever spike in a single day. With this, the total number of positive cases climbed to 23,870.

DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through online on Monday.

A total of 9788 samples have been tested in 42 coronavirus testing labs across the country over the last 24 hours. Of these, 1602 have been diagnosed with coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 23,870, she said. This is the biggest single-day spike in new cases since the first COVID-19 cases were detected in the country on March 8.

About the new fatalities, Prof Nasima said that 17 of them are male and four female. Among them, five was aged between 61 and 70, eight between 51 and 60, six between 41 and 50 and two others between 31 and 40.

Besides, 212 new people have recovered from the novel coronavirus over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 4485 the health official said.

The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
