11 more die, 1034 new infected
11 more people have died from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll from the pandemic to 239 in the country. Besides, the highest number of 1034 fresh positive cases have been recorded in a single day. With this, the total number of positive cases climbed to 15,691.
DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through online on Monday.
A total of 7,208 samples have been tested in 37 coronavirus testing labs across the country over the last 24 hours. Of these, 1034 have been diagnosed with coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 15,691, she said, adding that as many as 129,865 samples have so far tested.
This is the biggest single-day spike in new cases since the first COVID-19 cases were detected in the country on March 8.
Meanwhile, 252 new people have recovered from the novel coronavirus over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 2,902, the health official said.
The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
