14 more die, 887 new infected

14 more deaths from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have been reported in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll from the pandemic to 228 in the country.  Besides, the highest number of 887 fresh positive cases have been recorded in a single day. With this, the total number of positive cases climbed to 14,657.

DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through online on Sunday.

A total of 5,738 samples have been tested in 36 coronavirus testing labs across the country over the last 24 hours. Of these, 887 have been diagnosed with coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 14,657, she said.

This is the biggest single-day spike in new cases since the first COVID-19 cases were detected in the country on March 8.

Meanwhile, 236 new people have recovered from the novel coronavirus over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 2,650, the health official said.

The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
