7 more die, 497 new infected

Seven more people have died from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll from the pandemic to 152 in the country. Besides, 497 others were infected by the lethal virus in the country during the time. With this, the total number of positive cases climbed to 5,913.

DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through online on Monday.

A total of 497 fresh cases were detected after testing 3,812 samples in 25 institutes including Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control And Research (IEDCR) across the country over the last 24 hours, she said, adding that as many as 50,401 samples have so far tested.

Meanwhile, nine new people have recovered from the novel coronavirus over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 131, the health official said.

About the new fatalities, Prof Nasima said that six of them are male and one female. Among them, five are in Dhaka while one each in Sylhet and Rajshahi.

The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after detection of the first COVID-19 cases.

The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 210 countries and territories around the world and 2 international conveyances. As of Monday afternoon, a total of 3,003,352 people have been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 207,094 while 882,567 patients have recovered.
