World Bank will provide 300 million dollars loan to Bangladesh

The World Bank will provide 300 million dollars loan assistance to 20 districts of the country to alleviate poverty and corona risk.

The World Bank said in a statement to the media on Tuesday (June 29).

The agreement was signed last Sunday, it said. It was signed by Mercy Tembon, Country Director for Bangladesh and Bhutan on behalf of the World Bank, and Fatema Yasmin, Secretary for Economic Relations on behalf of Bangladesh.

The loan will benefit 7.5 lakh people in 3,200 villages under the Reliance, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Improvement (RELI) project aimed at improving the skills of the poor and improving their quality of life. The grace period of this loan for a period of three years is 5 years. Using this loan, 490,000 people will be trained on climate risk, adaptation and resilience. Besides, 5,120 climate tolerant infrastructures will be constructed.

In this context, Mercy Tembon said that the Covid-19 epidemic has limited the income and economic opportunities of the rural poor, especially women. The project will help the rural economy and 90 percent of its beneficiaries will be women. The project will help in health and nutrition awareness.
