Highest deaths, cases recorded in one day

19 more people have died from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the last 24 hours, the highest number of deaths during the period, till Wednesday, taking the death toll in the country to 269. Besides, the highest number of 1162 fresh positive cases have been recorded in a single day. With this, the total number of positive cases climbed to 17,822.
DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through online on Wednesday.
A total of 7,900 samples have been tested in 41 coronavirus testing labs across the country over the last 24 hours. Of these, 1,162 have been diagnosed with coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 17,822, she said.
This is the biggest single-day spike in new cases since the first COVID-19 cases were detected in the country on March 8.
Meanwhile, 214 new people have recovered from the novel coronavirus over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 3,361, the health official said.
The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
